Hello everyone, my name is Prema Malhotra. I am an Indian adoptee who was adopted from Mumbai, India and adopted by Indian adoptive parents. I sometimes go by the nickname, Suma, as that was the name given prior to adoption. I currently live in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois and came to U.S.A at the age of six-and-a-half months old. I am currently a student at a university working towards a degree in Justice Studies and a minor in social work.
I have traveled back to India three times and visited my adoption agency where I came from. My first journey back to India was in December 2004 and then in 2006. I did a root search, otherwise known as a birth search, and traveled back to India in December 2011 where I met my foster mom who took care of me prior to adoption. I am not reunited with my natural mom, but always learning about my roots and were I came from was very important to me. In my free time, I like to write about my adoption journey and research about adoption as I recently finished a paper on intercountry adoption specific to India. I find that writing has helped me to process my adoption experience and I also love to connect with other adoptees.
