“We might have to throw our assumptions out the window in terms of how we think about how adoptions have been done, and we might have to start from completely different ideas or different notions of what adoption really does.”

Our Google+ conversation with Stevie Larson ran into some technical difficulties. So, we recorded the conversation with him via Skype. Below is the result of an incredibly fascinating conversation about his startling image/map about US adoption. If Stevie is correct, we may now have evidence that shows the assumed tenants of adoption are inaccurate. Enjoy.

  1. Fascinating! I think we also have to throw the assumptions of “placing children with the families who can best care for them…” We assume that that is largely based on the amount of resources and education adoptive families poses. Yet the data seems to indicate that the wealthier and more educated the adoptive parents are (specifically the adoptive mother) the more likely they are to disrupt or dissolve an adoption.

  2. Well my adoptive parents treated me like garbage. I was never good enough, no matter how hard I tried, In Australia past adoption practices was based upon the fact that you got the adoptive parents you deserved so if you were born to uneducated young teens then you were sent to adoption placement where mum had not working skills and dad barely worked at all. if Dad was a student lawyer and mum a nurse, guess what you went to the family used deserved , talk about punishing the sins of the fathers upon the children, and basically they did and then they complained because you never made anything proper of your life. The children they discarded of yesterday have forgotten one thing, they maybe able to steal you physically from your real family but they cannot steal your true self. It may take us along time to find out the truth and forgive those who tried to hide the truth , but we will do it..and change the way the world see’s adoption forever/
