Today I am thankful for . . .
Community; my people
PBS may have made me cry, but I am thankful I have a community to cry to. When I was growing up, I didn’t have that community. I didn’t have:
- A mentor to show me how vast the spectrum the adoption experience is
- Writers/thinkers who could so eloquently describe the jumble of emotions locked in my heart
- Warriors to cry out for change and fight for those wronged in the past and those who may be wronged in the future
Adoptees are often told to be grateful for being adopted/saved/bettered, but those people don’t realize forever families aren’t the only people to be thankful for. We should be most thankful for each other. The way we support, appreciate, and push each other to make this experience look different for one another and for the future.
