A pretty impressive list, right? Yeah… I’ll just go cry in a corner now and think about what I need to do when I finally decide to become a grown up like Jennifer. In the meantime, dear reader…
Land of Gazillion Adoptees: What the heck are you doing in London?
Jennifer: I’m completing the end of my Ph.D. research on Chinese adoption at the British Library (comparing Chinese adoption in the United Kingdom, Spain and North America). Readers can visit www.InspirationIceCream.com for updates.
LGA: Nice! So, I keep hearing about “the rise of Chinese adoptees.” What are some of the highlights from the Chinese adoptee community?
Jennifer: Many Chinese adoptees are entering, or about to enter, college. Several have already graduated from college and are in graduate programs around the world! During the past year we launched our first multi-generational Chinese adoptee group blog called “ONE WORLD” at www.chineseadoptee.com. It’s very exciting because it includes eight founding bloggers (and more than 60 guest bloggers). Our 8 founding Chineseadoptee.com bloggers represent six generations of Chinese adoptees: teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s. Everyone — and adoptees of all backgrounds and birthcountries — is invited to contribute to our growing global community.
Jennifer: We’re still in our very early stages of community development. I think the diversity of our stories, the sense of prescient possibilities, and our siblings (who are often adopted from other countries all over the world — many Chinese adoptees have siblings from Korea, Ethiopia, Colombia, Vietnam, etc.) — make our ‘links’ very exciting. We’re launching our new group blog “ONE WORLD” website in the spring of 2012 thanks to our fabulous webmaster, Erin, a talented student who has grown up in both Spain and the USA with her adoptive family.
